Jim Barker set to retire in the next year

Clemson University, South Carolina - President Jim Barker announced at 10:30 AM in a short live stream to the University Community that he plans to retire back to the classroom in the next few months. He will go back to being a professor in the College of Architecture.

Jim Barker has served as the President of Clemson for more than fourteen years and is best known for his focus on Clemson's mission to be a "Top 20" Public University. He has a great list of accomplishments and leaves the university with the highest demand (in terms of application numbers) in its history. Clemson now has enrollment of more than 20,000 students and is ranked 25th by U.S.News & World Report.

He has been a great supporter of Alpha at Clemson and has attended several of Pi Alpha and PANAC events over the last decade. President leadership was largely responsible the enhanced University support of the MLK Commemorative Service, the Pi Alpha members started in 1981.

President Barker will stay on as President until the University can conduct a national search for his replacement.
